Chicago White Sox @ Detroit Tigers

Scheduled Start Time: 6:08 PM CT

Comerica Park

(SportsNetwork.com) - Andre Rienzo makes his season debut for the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday when they continue a four-game series versus the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park.

Rienzo, who is taking the place of the injured Felipe Paulino, made 10 starts with the White Sox last season, going 2-3 with a 4.82 ERA. He struggled with his command at times, though, and those issues appeared to have continued this year at Triple-A Charlotte, where he had a 4.83 ERA over his first three starts.

Detroit, meanwhile, will hand the ball to lefty Drew Smyly, who struggled in his first start of the year on Friday against Anaheim. Smyly absorbed the loss in that one, as he allowed four runs and six hits in three innings, dropping him to 1-1 on the year to go along with a 4.00 ERA.

'Honestly, I went out in the third inning trying to just let them hit it and hopefully get three quick outs,' Smyly said. '(I'm) just trying to help the team save the bullpen, but I think they went double, home run, double, and that didn't really work out the way I planned.'

Smyly has faced the White Sox nine times (2 starts) and has yet to record a decision, but has pitched to a 4.60 ERA against them.

On Tuesday, Miguel Cabrera's two-run homer highlighted Detroit's five-run third inning as the Tigers rolled to an 8-6 win. Cabrera also added an RBI double among his three hits for Detroit, which has won four of its last six games.

Justin Verlander (3-1) fanned seven and surrendered two runs on eight hits and two walks over seven frames to pick up the win. Ian Kinsler posted a pair of hits, RBI and runs scored in the triumph.

'We jumped out to an early lead there in the third. Just tried to execute and conserve my pitch count,' Verlander said.

Joba Chamberlain picked up the final out to earn his first save of the season.

Filling in for the injured Chris Sale, Charlie Leesman (0-1) allowed six runs on nine hits and one walk over 2 2/3 innings for Chicago, which had its brief two-game winning streak snapped. Jose Abreu smacked a solo homer in defeat.

'No offense to Charlie, but I'm sure those guys were pretty excited when they heard Chris was scratched,' White Sox DH Adam Dunn said.

Detroit was 12-7 against the Chicago last season.
